The class will focus on Alla Prima painting – meaning direct, “all in one go” painting.

Instructor and students will make weekly paintings from a pre-recorded video portrait model, learn by copying from high quality photos of master paintings assigned by faculty, as well as paint assigned subjects from life.

Ms TULLY will publish a minimum of one video and one slideshow demonstration per week. Each student will have a 30-minute private critique per week. The class will meet once a week online as a group, for discussion.

Studio Escalier will also host a private social media page for those students who wish to post their progress and share their work.

Each Sunday, Studio Escalier will upload a new painting demonstration made by observing a pre-recorded live portrait model.

The Sunday painting demonstration video (2-3 hrs in length) and the same pre-recorded portrait model video (1-2 hrs in length) will be available online exclusively for ALLA PRIMA PAINTING online students to view and paint from during the course.

Each week the class will focus on a new palette and use a different color toned surface.

On Monday of each week, Studio Escalier will upload a second demonstration, a slideshow or photo essay of a master copy or of a painting from life, using high quality reference images. This demonstration will be documented with short slideshow or video snippets, and progress photos with captions.

Additional reference paintings will be given to students who wish to make more than one Alla Prima master copy per week.

A weekly online group meeting will be held each Sunday, to discuss the week’s assignment and reply to general issues.

During the week, students will keep a studio journal, to organize their own projects and record their own questions and progress.

Individual critiques will be given on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday of each week. Students will have a designated time to meet the instructor on Zoom for 30-35 minutes to discuss the week’s work.

A private Facebook Group will be created for students to share their work from the class and interact with each other during the course and after.

The Facebook group will be monitored by the instructor and participation is optional.
