2026 SUMMER in PARIS | FIGURE DRAWING

“I am convinced that every time one gives artists their freedom and suppresses the spirit of routine, art will benefit. We, the young, will draw from our heart and find there motifs of originality, of personality, an emotion that can’t reach us through the constraining recipes of the teaching that we’ve been given up to now.”

– Léon Bonnat, letter to the critic Ernest Chesneau, 23 December 1863

COURSE DESCRIPTION

2026 Summer in Paris – Figure Drawing is a 2-week special program for art students and artists of every level.

Students will profit from critique and lectures by founding faculty Timothy STOTZ and Nicole Michelle TULLY, introducing and demonstrating essential concepts and skills in drawing the human figure from observation.

This course will offer students the opportunity to dive deep into a perceptually based figure drawing process. Specific strategies involving movement, shape, perspective, structural anatomy, & light will be introduced to the students as they work on a number of exercises and studies that will support a more thoroughly developed figure drawing.

20 hours of drawing from the live figure per week with individual critique at the easel, plus 5 hrs/week of drawing demonstration.
