Home- Introduction and Upcoming Courses

"C'est cela le véritable chemin de l'amour, que l'on s'y engage soi-même ou que l'on s'y laisse conduire. Il consiste, en
partant des beautés sensibles, à monter sans cesse vers la beauté surnaturelle, en passant, comme par des échelons, d'un
beau corps à deux beaux corps, puis de deux beaux corps à tous..." -- Plato, le Banquet (Symposium)

("For this is the true mystery of the love to which we submit ourselves, or to which we let ourselves be led. Setting forth from perceptible beauties, it consists in rising unceasingly towards beauty as an Idea, as if by ascending stairs, from one beautiful body to two beautiful bodies, from two beautiful bodies to all...")

STUDIO ESCALIER is an independent, private, studio art school and international arts residency program, designed and directed by master practitioners, dedicated to the contemporary classical study of drawing and painting from life.

Admission to our 3-month Intensive Courses in drawing and painting -- and to our new Monthly Programs and Winter Drawing Intensive in Paris -- is by advance application only.

Anyone may apply, there are no academic or other pre-requisites to apply as a student.
It is an open admissions process, based mainly on a review of artwork drawn from life.

Now offering courses in the heart of Paris as well as in Argenton-Chateau, France, we are an international point of contact for professionals, emerging artists and beginning art students alike, attracting members of many different figurative schools and traditions. (NYC, Boston, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles; France, UK, Ireland, Germany, Holland, Italy, Spain, Russia, China and Korea).

We receive artists from New York to New Zealand, and all points in between (Fairbanks, Miami, Beijing, Johannesburg).

We are of interest to those who wish to place working from the human figure at the center of their artistic training, or those who have achieved enough as artists to openly re-evaluate, question, investigate and improve how they work from life.

Our student body includes: career painters, portraitists, illustrators, concept artists, animators, muralists, scenic artists & set designers, college art teachers, architects, sculptors, printmakers, promising undergraduate students in all these fields, and career-oriented beginners, of every age.

Our most current schedule of upcoming courses can always be found here on the Home page, listed by their upcoming application deadlines:
